Early Life and Career

Andrew Thomas McCarthy was born on November 29, 1962, in Westfield, New Jersey. Growing up there until the age of 15 when his family relocated, he later made his professional debut at age 19 in the film "Class."

McCarthy became known for his roles in films such as "St. Elmo's Fire" (1985), "Pretty in Pink" (1986), and "Weekend at Bernie's" (1989). He was part of the "Brat Pack," a group of young actors who starred in several popular coming-of-age films in the 1980s.

Writing and Directing

In addition to acting, McCarthy has also pursued a career in writing and directing. He is an award-winning travel writer and has authored several books, including "The Longest Way Home: One Man's Quest for the Courage to Settle Down" (2002).

McCarthy has also directed several television series, including "Lip Sync Battle" (2015-2019) and "Snowfall" (2017-present). He has received critical acclaim for his work behind the camera.
